2018 Robert Beardsley Piano Prize Competition

Ruthmere Museum is pleased to announce the winner of the Second Annual Robert B. Beardsley Piano Prize Competition--Nicholas Susi from Duluth, Minnesota!

Nicholas performed the follow repertoire at the competition:

Franz Liszt (1811 – 1886):  Deux légendes, S. 175
I. St. François d’Assise: La prédication aux oiseaux
II. St. François de Paule marchant sur les flots

Our goal for this competition is simple yet bold.  Ruthmere seeks to discover the next piano virtuoso in the music world.  After a very competitive Preliminary Round with 28 applicants from around the country, the judging panel composed of Luke Norrell, Mary Rose Norrell and Daniel Lin secured five finalists to perform in the live competition on September 15th.  Joining Nicholas Susi as Finalists were: Vijay Venkatesh, Hyeson Jin, Ariadne Antipa, and Kyunghoon Kim.

The Competition was a lively 3-hour event that showcased the talents of our five exceptional pianists.  Finalists received $100 and complimentary lodging at Ruthmere's Creek House Center during the competition.  It is our expectation and hope to field talent equal to this group for 2019.  Next year's competition is scheduled to open applications in March, with the live competition date scheduled for September 28, 2019.

Grand Prize Winner’s Performance: October 11, 2018

Competition Winner Nicholas Susi will return to Ruthmere to perform for 15-20 minutes as part of the opening concert of the Ruthmere Fall Concert series on October 11th at 7pm.  At this concert Nicholas will receive his a cash award of $1,000, and have his name displayed alongside the Beardsley Cup on permanent exhibit at Ruthmere.  Congratulations to Nicholas!
